On Saturday October 3rd, Camp Laurelwood hosted the New England Warrior Dash. The Warrior Dash is an out of the box way to run a 5K race all while supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Warriors conquered twelve man made obstacles which tested their endurance throughout the course. At the finish line warriors jumped over a controlled fire line protected by members of the North Madison Volunteer Fire company acting as firewatch with our brush truck. In addition the fire department provided an off-road vehicle for patient transport as well as supplemental EMTs that assisted Madison EMS for the day. For more photos visit the Warrior Dash Facebook.
Due to the possibility of heavy rain and wind this weekend, the open house has been postponed to Sunday October 11 from 12-3.
October is designated as Fire Prevention Month by the National Fire Protection Agency. In conjunction with this, we are hosting an Open House on Sunday, October 11th from Noon to 3 PM. We invite neighbors, friends, and families to stop by the fire station to become familiar with our facilities. This year at 2:00 PM, we will ignite a demo bedroom to show the effects of smoke. You will be able to witness firsthand how smoke accumulates, how fires spread and the benefit and effectiveness of a smoke alarm. This is an event not to be missed. We will also have a smoke trailer on property that will allow residents to experience what it is like to be in a smoke-filled building. A fun experience for the kids will be the “midnight alarm”. With this activity , they will simulate a real fire call by dressing in fire gear and jumping on a fire truck. Kids and adults will also get a chance to handle a hose line and douse the prop house. There will be fire extinguisher demonstrations as well throughout the day. The first 50 families that visit our open house will be given two free 9 Volt replacement battery for their home smoke detectors. We look forward to seeing you on October 11th. Refreshments will be served.Read more
