Explorers

The Explorer Post is the North Madison Volunteer Fire Company’s junior division. Youths ages 14 – 21 are eligible to join and participate at varying levels based on age and experience. Explorers participate in their own specialized drills as well as attend regular fire department drills and training exercises. Once all entry level training is completed, explorers can respond to emergency calls. The State of Connecticut, OSHA, and the Boy Scouts of America have additional restrictions and guidelines. Our Explorers have consistently proven to be a valuable asset at the emergency scene.

Important Information For Applicants and their Parents
  1. Explorer meetings and drills are held every other Wednesday at 7:00 PM at the North Madison Firehouse. The fire department also has regular drills which Explorers can attend on the first, fourth, and fifth Tuesdays of every month.
  2. Participating in the Explorer Post requires a significant commitment. Members should attend the Explorer drills and meetings held every other Wednesday. If you have or anticipate school and athletic conflicts regularly on Wednesday nights, this may not be an appropriate time to join.
  3. All members are held to a high standard as behavior outside the fire department reflects directly on the department.
  4. Please read the attached rules and guidelines. If you have any questions, please ask one of the current Explorer officers or the Explorer Post Adviser.
